Snowgoose Exhibition – Barnaby Festival 2013

Each year the Level 3 students are invited to contribute to the Snowgoose Exhibition which is part of the ‘Following the Arts Trail’ in conjunction with Barnaby Festival.  This year I have put in 4 images of Granelli’s and below is the introduction to them.

Granelli’s Ice Cream Project

My Level 3 Documentary Photography Project was based around the local ice cream business, Granelli’s.  The reason I chose Granelli’s was partly to find out the secret to their longevity, since it was established by Angelo Granelli in 1890 and is still going strong today.

The Granelli’s premises in Newton Street, Macclesfield have a very endearing quality about them and the fact that the family still make their own ice cream today is a testament to how they have grown and adapted to meet the needs of their customers.  Generations of families have visited their Ice Cream Parlour over the years and it has given happy memories for families both young and old.

As the business is steeped in history I wanted to produce a series of images that would capture the old but also put a modern take on a more traditional subject.  I think it is important to create interest for the younger generation to ensure that this lovely business continues to flourish and produce ice cream for many years to come.
